Professional Officer (All Levels) in Software Engineering

The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a first-of-its kind AI-assisted integrated NDT verification system for reusability of structural steel with accuracy of ±10% at confidence level of 95%. The key innovation is to use AI to analyse a bigger data set and build a multi-parameter machine learning (ML) model that integrate the complex mechanical properties obtained from DT and the electric/magnetic permeability data obtained from NDT to predict the critical material characteristics of reusable steels.

The Centre for Digital Enablement drives the initiatives to elevate digital competencies for academic staff and students within SIT. It works with various stakeholders, both internal and external, in upskilling digital literacy across the organization through literacy programmes and digital innovation projects in relation to the Digital Learning Spaces (DLS). For this role, you will spearhead the various AI enablement programmes in SIT, manage the AI-related resources within the division, and lead AI projects within SIT and with industry partners to support teaching and learning objectives. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering digital literacy courses to undergraduate students and academic staff as part of the institutional drive to ensure our graduates are ready for a highly digitally-enabled workforce. Successful candidates will join the Infocomm Technology (ICT) Cluster (one of five domain clusters in SIT), as members of a team of accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and deeply involved with industry transformation through their applied research programmes. Faculty in the ICT Cluster undertake funded industry-relevant research, teach courses in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security and Software Engineering as well as supervise graduate industry masters and doctorate students in relevant topics.
