The Manager/Senior Manager, Student Life (Counselling Service) is responsible for providing counselling to students, as well as coordinating, managing and executing key student development initiatives for the Counselling Service at Student Life Division, SIT. The Manager/Senior Manager will also be tasked with daily operations of the Counselling Service, which includes case management, programme development and stakeholder management. The position contributes to the creation of a vibrant, safe and supportive student life and university campus.

This position is part the Counselling Service in Student Life Division. It is one of the pillars in the division which creates transformative, enriching campus experiences and promotes student wellbeing.

The Manager/Senior Manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional counselling to students experiencing emotional difficulties by helping them to develop goals, identify and work through their issues and to assist students to reach their own resolutions or develop strategies to address their concerns.
  • Provide relevant information or resources specific to students’ needs.
  • Facilitate group counselling sessions or be a mediator in a conflict resolution setting.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support the counselling team when responding to students in distress (including afterhours activation).
  • Liaising with SIT Faculty/Divisions and healthcare professionals as part of case management.
  • Work with the counselling team, as well as relevant pillars within Student Life Division, in developing, scheduling and conducting training for SIT students and staff in the area of mental wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with external partners on relevant platforms that encourage mental health and build resilience.
  • Manage the Counselling Service email account; schedule sessions as requested.
  • Oversee administrative functions of the Counselling Service which include ensuring prompt case updates and reports, procurement of collaterals, budget management, as well as managing and updating guidelines and procedures.
  • Ad hoc tasks as assigned by Director of Student Life Division.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Master’s Degree from a recognised University (by the Singapore Association of Counselling) with 8 years’ experience in a similar position in counselling/psychology and crisis intervention.
  • Registration with locally-approved governing agency, e.g. Singapore Psychology Society or Singapore Association of Counselling is an added advantage.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, to connect, motivate, inspire and bridge students with staff.
  • Strong presentation/reporting (verbal and written) skills, ability to convey key messages to others effectively and meaningfully.
  • Creative and excellent with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organisational and coordinating capabilities with excellent administrative skills.
  • Agile, able to multitask and work independently within a tight timeline.
  • Able to work in a fast pace and dynamic environment, adaptable to changes.
  • Passionate about supporting people.
  • Empathetic, positive attitude with the ability to think “out of the box”.
  • Willingness to learn continually through training, guidance, clinical supervision, and self-reflection.
  • Committed team player, responsible, reliable, and able to work with others to achieve shared goals.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of office hours and on weekends.
