As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to support the development of a Medical Diagnostics Kit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments and assays related to microRNA profiling, validation, and functional analysis for lung cancer diagnosis.
  • Perform nucleic acid extraction, purification, and quantification techniques such as quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.
  • Work with Principal Investigators in designing and executing experiments, optimizing protocols, improving probes and primers and overall assay workflow as well as troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and software tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, data, and results in accordance with laboratory protocols and good scientific practices.
  • Procure necessary consumables, reagents and equipment for the research to be carried out.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with relevant project experience.
  • Prior research experience in molecular biology techniques, particularly in microRNA analysis, gene expression profiling, and nucleic acid handling.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, purification, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and gene expression analysis.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and data analysis software for microRNA data analysis is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in experiment planning, data management, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present scientific findings effectively.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and adherence to ethical guidelines in scientific research.
