As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to conduct applied research in the topic of robust AI for autonomous driving perception. Detailed research tasks include physical-space adversarial example attacks, applying redundancy and diversity of deep neural networks to harden object detection and semantic segmentation, as well as maintaining the real-time performance of the hardened AI computing on embedded GPUs (NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin). RGB camera and LiDAR will be the main sensing modalities to be studied.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
  • Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
    1. Work with the research fellow, collaborators, and the industry partner to conduct the applied research
    2. Develop the prototype for testing
  • Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
  • Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • Have relevant competence in the areas of Deep Learning/Computer Vision
  • Have a Bachelor/master’s degree in computer science/engineering or related disciplines
  • Knowledge of autonomous vehicles or cyber security will be advantageous
  • Hands-on experiences with computer systems

  • Specialized in computer science, computer engineering, or relevant disciplines
  • Proficient in developing computer systems
  • Enthusiasm in the AV related research
  • Knowledgeable in Deep Learning/Computer Vision
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university
  • Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Show strong initiative and take ownership of work

Major Challenges:

  • Work with multiple parties including local university researchers, Industry partner and oversea researchers
  • This project is competition-based, and thus the proposed solution will compete with other teams.
