We are seeking a capable Senior Assistant Manager / Manager, Corporate Communications, with strong experience in media relations and content development. The role focuses on maintaining day-to-day media activities, such as announcements, and proactive and reactive media outreach, as well as content creation. The candidate will also contribute to crisis communications management when required. Working closely with the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, this role will support the development and delivery of clear, impactful messaging across media platforms to strengthen public understanding of the University. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Media Relations:
  • Develop and execute effective PR campaigns that align with the University’s strategic goals. Develop media materials, including press materials, spokesperson talking points, media responses, and reactive FAQs. Prepare faculty and students for media interviews.
  • Cultivate relationships with key media contacts, and proactively manage press engagements, such as announcement events and campus tours.
  • Organise media training together with the Senior Manager and coordinate the associated logistics and supporting materials.
  • Content Development: Produce engaging content for diverse audiences across platforms, including editorials, thought leadership pieces, and contributions to social media posts and key publications.
  • Crisis and Issues Management: Contribute to crisis communications efforts, including coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure coherent messaging and maintain the University’s reputation during critical events.

 

Job Requirements

  • Overall Experience: Minimum five years’ experience in media relations, corporate communications, or a related area, preferably in a public-facing role. Prior experience in Institutes of Higher Learning is advantageous.
  • Media Acumen: Has a good understanding of media dynamics, with a proven track record in press relations, media pitching, and campaign management. Experience managing crises/issues and organising media training is a plus.
  • Storytelling Expertise and Digital and AI Literacy: A creative communicator with a passion for storytelling, content creation, and message crafting for digital and print. Comfortable working with digital tools including AI, to support content development, ideation, and communications work.
  • Project Management: Possesses the organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Capable of adopting a broader communications perspective and collaborating effectively with colleagues to develop comprehensive, integrated communications plans.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities; adept at fostering rapport with internal teams, media contacts, and external partners.
  • Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field.
