As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, fabrication, and validation of an advanced chemical cleaning rig for pharmaceutical and chemical engineering applications. The role focuses on engineering design, fluid dynamics, process calculations, equipment integration, and hands-on experimental validation.

 

Key Responsibilities
1. Participate in the design, development and optimisation of novel cleaning systems and associated equipment for pharmaceutical applications.

2. Perform engineering calculations related to fluid flow, spray cleaning, pressure losses, hydraulic performance, jet impingement, momentum transfer and hydraulic jump (Froude number) analysis.

3. Develop engineering drawings, specifications and fabrication requirements for custom components.

4. Coordinate with vendors, workshops and fabricators for manufacture, procurement and assembly of experimental equipment.

5. Lead technical discussions with project stakeholders regarding system design material and equipment selection.

6. Plan and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate cleaning effectiveness and process performance.

7. Collect, analyse and interpret experimental data and prepare technical reports.

8. Troubleshoot equipment, instrumentation and process issues during experimental campaigns.

9. Coordinate procurement activities and maintain project documentation.

10. Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.

11. Contribute to publications, conference presentations and project deliverables.

12. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables.

13. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor.

 

Key Requirements
•    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
•    2 to 5 years of relevant industrial or research experience preferred.
•    Demonstrable experience in process equipment design, prototyping, pilot plants, laboratory systems or pharmaceutical cleaning and/or changeover operations is advantageous.
•    Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, transport phenomena, material and chemical compatibility.
•    Experience with process calculations and engineering design with applications in pharmaceutical contexts.
•    Familiarity with pumps, piping systems, valves, spray nozzles and process instrumentation to build prototypes.
•    Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion360, AutoCAD or equivalent)
•    Experience working with vendors and equipment fabrication.
•    Ability to independently conduct laboratory experimentation involving handling of chemicals.
•    Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics is advantageous.
