Job Purpose
As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry or government agencies in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop/produce/investigate coastal biodiversity and environmental sustainability related projects in the Engineering Cluster, SIT.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. 
•    Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 
i.    Field studies in coastal marine habitats involving fish, macroinvertebrates and potentially plankton sampling 
ii.    Laboratory based work involving sorting and processing of specimens and data collected during field work
iii.    Data analyses and technical report/scientific paper writing
•    Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
•    Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
•    Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
•    To communicate with any internal or external parties to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.

Job Requirements
•    BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) for RE/RA or equivalent, with prior experience in coastal ecology preferred

•    Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail is essential
•    Possess leadership qualities, highly-motivated, responsible, and a fast learner
•    Independent, but also able to work well with others in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
•    Experience in data analysis (using R, Primer, PC-Ord) is desirable, but training will be provided if necessary
•    Show strong initiative and take ownership of work

 

Major Challenges
•    May require some level of physical fitness for extended periods of field work in tropical coastal environments
•    Some weekend flexibility may be required
