Job Purpose
As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry or government agencies in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be help the PI manage and be involved in multiple research teams to develop/produce/investigate coastal biodiversity and environmental sustainability related projects (with a focus on mangrove ecosystems) in the Engineering Cluster, SIT.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the PI as a project manager to supervise and manage mulitple research projects to ensure all project deliverables are achieved.
- Undertake these responsibilites in the project
- Develop and organise educational and outreach programs on mangrove ecology and restoration.
- Involved in field studies in coastal marine habitats involving mangroves, fishes, macroinvertebrates and potentially plankton sampling
- Assist in laboratory-based work involving sorting and processing of specimens and data collected during field work
- Invovled in data analyses and technical report/scientific paper writing
- Co-supervise student projects with the PI.
- Complete, maintain and update Laboratory/Project related Risk Assessments and ensure compliance to Work, Safety and Health Regulations (WSH).
- Communicate effectively with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by the PI.
Job Requirements
- PhD or MSc with 6-8 years of relevant experience; prior experience in coastal ecology preferred

- Independent, but also able to work well with others in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications
- Experience in data analysis (using R, Primer, PC-Ord) is desirable, but training will be provided if necessary
- Show strong initiative and take ownership of work
Major Challenges
- May require some level of physical fitness for extended periods of field work in tropical coastal environments
- Some weekend flexibility may be required
