We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow / Research Engineer to join a research project on the digitalization and intelligence of train operations and maintenance. The project brings together researchers and industry partners to develop and deploy advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) based solutions for real-world railway operations and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Work closely with other research team members to research, develop, and integrate AI and XR technologies for railway operations, inspection, maintenance, and training.
- Participate in system implementation, experimentation, data collection, evaluation, deployment, and field testing in real-world railway environments.
- Work closely with railway operators, train manufacturers, and other industry stakeholders to understand operational requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Prepare technical reports, research papers, project presentations, system documentation, and other project deliverables.
- Contribute to research publications, demonstrations, intellectual property, and technology translation arising from the project.
Requirements
Applicants should preferably have:
- A Doctorate degree for Research Fellow and a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree for Research Engineer in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Prior training and/or hands-on experience in both AI and XR development. Candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge or project experience in these two areas.
- Relevant industry experience, preferably involving the development, integration, deployment, or evaluation of AI, XR, or other intelligent systems in practical applications.
- Hands-on experience with AI/deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
- Familiar with Unity or other real-time 3D/XR development platforms, and preferably experience developing applications for AR/VR/MR devices.
- A good track record in technical communication, including experience in preparing technical reports, research or technical papers, project documentation, and technical presentations.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research team and collaborate with industry partners.
