We are seeking a capable Senior Assistant Manager, Corporate Communications, with strong experience in media relations and content development to provide maternity cover. Working closely with the Senior Manager, this role will support the ongoing delivery of clear, timely, and impactful communications across media platforms to strengthen public understanding of the University.
The role focuses on maintaining day-to-day media engagement and communications efforts, including managing announcements, supporting both proactive and responsive media outreach, and contributing to crisis communications when required. The candidate will also work closely with divisions across SIT to gather inputs, align messaging, and produce content for a range of platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Media Relations:
- Support the execution of media relations activities, including press pitches, announcements, media engagement, and coordination of interviews. Maintain strong working relationships with media contacts and ensure timely responses to media queries.
- Assist in preparing faculty, staff and students for media engagements, including coordinating media training sessions and developing supporting materials.
- Content Development: Produce engaging content for diverse audiences across platforms, including editorials, thought leadership pieces, and contributions to key publications such as SIT’s Annual Report.
- Crisis and Issues Management: Contribute to crisis and issues communications efforts as needed, including coordinating information and supporting the development of clear and timely messaging.
Job Requirements
- Overall Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in media relations, corporate communications, or a related area, preferably in a public-facing role. Prior experience in Institutes of Higher Learning is advantageous.
- Media Acumen: Has a good understanding of media dynamics, with a experience in press relations, media pitching, and campaign management. Experience managing crisis/issues communications and organising media training is a plus.
- Storytelling Expertise and Digital and AI Literacy: A creative communicator with a passion for storytelling, content creation, and message crafting for digital and print. Comfortable working with digital tools including AI, to support content development, ideation, and communications work.
- Project Management: Possesses the organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Capable of adopting a broader communications perspective and collaborating effectively with colleagues to develop comprehensive, integrated communications plans.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities; adept at fostering rapport with internal teams, media contacts, and external partners.
- Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Business, or a related field.
