SIT’s AI Platform is the institution’s enterprise AI platform and Centre of Excellence that accelerates the development, deployment and operation of AI solutions across the university. It provides shared AI platform capabilities, reusable products and assets, governance and safety controls, and expert guidance that enable teams to deliver AI solutions more rapidly while maintaining appropriate levels of security, compliance, reliability and operational oversight.
The AI Platform supports a broad spectrum of AI builders, including citizen developers, low-code / no-code practitioners, software developers, AI engineers and solution teams. Through reusable AI services, models, LLM endpoints, agent runtimes, vector and knowledge services, MCP services, APIs, SDKs, tools, templates, reference architectures and implementation patterns, teams are able to focus on solving business problems while leveraging common institutional capabilities.
The AI Platform also embeds governance, safety and Responsible AI practices into the platform itself through guardrails, observability, explainability, traceability, cost accountability and compliance controls. This ensures that AI solutions are trustworthy, auditable and compliant by design, while enabling adoption at scale across SIT.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, IT Security, the Senior IT Consultant (AI Security & Governance) is responsible for designing, building and operating the governance, safety, observability, traceability and compliance capabilities of the AI Platform. The role works hands-on to implement technical controls, monitoring mechanisms, policy enforcement, auditability and accountability features that ensure AI solutions remain secure, governed and trustworthy throughout their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
AI Governance, Controls and Policy Enforcement
- Design, implement and maintain governance controls, policy enforcement mechanisms and technical guardrails across the AI Platform, including controls for model use, prompt safety, access, data handling and platform behaviour.
- Ensure that AI solutions are governed by design and operate within approved institutional policies and control boundaries.
AI Security, Safety, Guardrails & Harness
- Implement and operate safety and security controls for AI services, including content controls, prompt protection, agent harness, access controls, data protection measures and other platform-level safeguards required for secure AI adoption.
- Reduce security and misuse risks while enabling safe and scalable use of AI Platform capabilities across SIT.
AI Observability, Traceability and Auditability
- Design and operate platform observability capabilities, including telemetry, logging, monitoring, tracing and audit trails, to provide visibility into how AI services, models and interactions are being used and performing in practice.
- Ensure that AI activities are observable, traceable and auditable for operational oversight, investigation and assurance purposes.
AI FinOps, Usage Visibility and Accountability
- Support cost visibility, usage monitoring and accountability across the AI Platform by implementing reporting, tagging, tracking and other mechanisms that provide transparency into consumption patterns and cost drivers.
- Promote responsible usage, cost awareness and better decision-making for AI Platform services and shared capabilities.
Governance Enablement and Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with Lead IT Consultant (AI Platform), Senior IT Consultant (AI Platform) and relevant CIT stakeholders to embed governance requirements into platform design, delivery and adoption practices, while helping teams understand how to build safely and compliantly on the AI Platform.
- Ensure that governance is practical, embedded and supportive of platform adoption rather than treated as a separate after-the-fact activity.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in cybersecurity, platform governance, technical controls, compliance engineering or AI governance implementation
- Good understanding of AI governance, model governance, Responsible AI and technical control implementation
- Able to translate governance and policy requirements into practical controls, configurations and operating procedures
- Good understanding of logging, monitoring, tracing, auditability and operational visibility for platform services
- Able to implement traceability, audit and evidence mechanisms that support governance and assurance needs
- Good understanding of security controls, access management, data protection and compliance requirements relevant to AI platforms
- Able to embed safety, compliance and risk controls into platform design and engineering practices
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across platform, security and solution teams
- Able to provide practical guidance that supports governed adoption without unnecessarily slowing delivery
