As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop a novel analytical technique to measure and quantify the emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases from semiconductor manufacturing industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
  • Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
    i. Set up experiment system for hands-on work to be conducted in project.
    ii. Conduct calibrations and measurements of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-GHGs) in a laboratory setting using Gas-Phase FTIR, GC-MS, Residual Gas Analysers and other equipment.
    iii. Construct databases and calibration charts of the measurements for future users of the analytical technique.
    iv. Develop experimental designs and methodologies using DOE principles to optimize data collection and analysis.
  • Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
  • Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
  • Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Prepare detailed research reports and presentations summarizing findings, methodologies, and recommendations.
  • Communicate research results effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Conduct training sessions for undergraduate student helpers, providing guidance on laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and data collection procedures.

Job Requirements 

  • Have relevant competence in the areas of gas phase measurements using various analytical equipment, including (but not limited to):
    o Gas-phase Fourier-Transform Infrared spectrometers
    o Gas chromatography / mass spectrometers
    o Residual gas analysers
  • Have at least a diploma in chemical engineering, chemistry or materials science.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB will be advantageous
  • Prior experience working with at least two of the above-mentioned analytical equipment is mandatory.
